Garmin Edge 1000

The garmin edge 1000 is garmin’s top of the range gps cycling computer as I’m sure you know. It was released in early 2014.

In December, I got myself this computer and have been trading it since.

I was sceptical about buying this computer because of the price and the battery life. However in the end I decided on this I over the edge 810.

Some of the features have proved very useful to me. The first is the live track.
When out cycling my parents can keep an eye on where I am, at any time. It gave them the peace in mind knowing that I was okay. There were a few blips where connection failed, however I believe this was down to my phone signal being weak.

Another feature that got a decent amount of use was the virtual partner and segments.
When I purchased this computer, I went on to strava and using an online tool I converted my best time up my favourite climb to a garmin edge compatible file and loaded it onto my garmin. Now when I’m out cycling, I can see live how many seconds behind my best time. This introduced a certain amount of excitement and competition to my training.

Taking about strava, I created a garmin connect account(complete rubbish). I created this not because I wanted to use it but because my rides now upload automatically to garmin connect when I come home. This is then linked with strava and my rides upload once I press that finish button.

Finally, I would like to mention the battery life.
I found the battery to drain at a rate of 10 percent an hour on average. However, I could get up to about 15 percent an hour when glonass, wifi, Bluetooth and the heart rate monitor were turned off.

Thanks for reading my review.

High Carb Vegan Diet

When you eat carbohydrates it is a common misconception that you will put on weight.

However carbs are burned in the body once they enter whether they come from simple Sugars or complex carbs.
The carbs are burned within 6 to 10 hours of entering the body. If excess carbs enter the body they are converted to heat in a process called thermogenesis.

Carbs are thought to make you fat because insulin is produced by the body when sugar enters and this causes any fat to be stored. However if you eat no fat there is no fat to be stored and you don’t put on weight.

The fat you eat is the fat you wear!

Trek Emonda

The Trek Emondo is the lightest production bike available to buy presently. At 4.5 kilograms it is well under the UCI weight limit of 6.8 kilograms.

At its 16000 dollar price, it makes me start to wonder is the weight loss worth it. It is only about 4 kilograms lighter than your average 2000 dollar road bike.

Add two water bottles along with some food, gels, spare tubes and a pump and the weight is already getting quite close to a less expensive 2000 dollar bike.

Most people could easily lose 4 kilograms of weight from our bodies if not more unless of course you are as slim as Contador out Froome.

This raises the question whether it is worth spending an extra 14000 dollars to lose 4 kilograms of weight.

For the majority of people I would advise them to lose weight from their body initially.

How to choose the correct bicycle for you?

Finding the right bicycle for you can be a very daunting task, especially if you are hoping to get into cycling.
Choosing a bike depends completely on two things.
1. Terrain
2. Back Flexibility

1. If you are going to be cycling on gravely trails, through mud or on any kind of off road terrain regularly buy an off road mountain bike.
If you are cycling on the roads buy a hybrid or road bike.

2. If you have very bad back flexibility a hybrid would suit you better. If you have good flexibility you should purchase a road bike.

N.B
When purchasing your bike remember to get the bike fit to you in the shop. If you don’t have a good bike you can cause yourself injury.

Giant defy composite 1 vs bianchi vertigo 105

I am thinking of getting a new bike soon. I have been looking at both the giant defy composite and the bianchi vertigo. If there is anybody that is good on their bikes reading could you please leave a comment on which one is better. I know the giant has better components compared to the bianchi but I am more interested in the frame and ride quality.
